The workshop controller at Kalum Bodywork Ltd plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of the workshop. Responsibilities include assigning tasks to technicians, ensuring timely completion of work, and maintaining high-quality standards. The workshop controller is also responsible for ordering parts, controlling stock levels, and liaising with customers to provide updates on their vehicles. Strong organisational skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of automotive repair processes are key requirements for this role. The workshop controller must cultivate a positive and productive work environment to maximise efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A workshop controller for an independent auto repair shop, duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to,
Managing a safe workshop environment.
Planning the distribution of work amongst the team, taking into account individual skill levels.
Analyse and manage the effective use of workshop resources and monitor individual and workshop efficiencies to ensure the company's targets and KPIs are met.
Manage cooperation between workshop and reception on customer vehicle progress.
Supporting the General Manager in day-to-day duties.
Carry out quality control in the workshop.
Offering exceptional customer service, including maintaining customer relationships.
Taking care of any customer issues or complaints professionally and in a timely manner.
Responsible for the efficient running of the workshop and maintaining high levels of productivity.
Ensuring the workshop machinery and tools are maintained, thus maintaining a professional workshop environment at all times.
Providing technical support when required during training or MOT testing.
Ensure team compliance with processes to ensure recording and invoicing accuracy
Ensuring good housekeeping and security in the workshop, leading by example.
Liaise with the front office to ensure customers are kept informed and manage any complaints that may arise
Ensuring that all working practices comply with company, DVSA, health and safety and OEM policy.
Making sure all service work is carried out correctly, competently and on time, with customer satisfaction in mind.
You will also maintain relationships with the vehicle manufacturer, provide support to Technicians during repairs, and ensure that high standards are achieved and maintained within the workshop and surrounding areas
Be prepared to assist in all areas of the business.
The candidate should have some experience in the described role. They must also be dependable and have good customer relations skills. We are looking to fill this role full-time and long term.
Job Requirements:
Maintain professional appearance
Excellent communication skills, verbal & written, are required.
Punctual nature and ability to handle schedule flexibility and dynamic work environment.
Previous experience in a similar role.
Prior knowledge of the automotive industry.
Proven experience in coaching and mentoring staff.
Working knowledge of computers (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
Presents a welcoming environment by keeping the working area neat and clean.
Administrative duties (i.e. scanning, copying, etc.)
Having a good working knowledge of Audatex and Repair Methods.
Being proactive in identifying and implementing effective working processes
Must have high standards of customer service, be a positive and effective communicator, and consistently adhere to strict processes.
Must have a UK driving license

Shift & Schedule: 07:30 - 17:30 Monday - Friday
08:00 - 13.00 Saturday
